Nanchang, China, January 2, 2023 – Shanghai and Tianjin took 1-0 lead in the best-of-three semifinals of the 2022-23 Chinese Women’s Volleyball Super League with wins over Shenzhen and Fujian in Shangrao, Jiangxi province on Monday.
Zhong Hui reaped 32 points from 25 kills, six blocks and an ace to lift Shanghai over Shenzhen 25-17, 17-25, 26-24 and 29-27. Wang Yindi and Samantha Bricio from Mexico contributed 16 points apiece for Shanghai with Chen Houyu and Gao Yi adding nine and eight respectively. Odina Aliyeva led Shenzhen with 20 points.
Also on Monday, defending champions Tianjin eased past Fujian 25-14, 25-17, 25-12 for their 19th straight win of the season. Melissa Vargas had 23 points for Tianjin while Wang Yuanyuan and Li Yingying finished with 11 and nine respectively.
