TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman College entered the second half of its Southern States Athletic Conference schedule Friday, falling to the University of Mobile in three sets, 25-8, 25-6 and 25-18, in Birthright Alumni Hall.
The Tigers posted one of its strongest third sets of the season in SSAC action, matching its program-best 18 points in a conference set. It was the most points in a set at home against a SSAC opponent.
TiAna Lawrence and Katelynn Madison blocked the first attack of the third set to start the Tigers with a 1-0 lead. While Mobile built a 3-0 lead, a service error and Kamryn Harris kill evened the set, 3-3. The Rams answered to build a 9-3 lead before Stillman responded. Stillman closed the gap to trail by three, 17-13, late in the set before a Tigers’ set error broke serve. Stillman later pulled within four points, 21-17, but an attack error and injury timeout stalled the Tigers’ momentum.
Aeraonna Manuel led Stillman with three kills. Khadeja Bryant had two kills, Stillman’s first two of the night, and Kamryn Harris also had two. Anniston Jones and Lawrence each had one. Madison and Grace Fjeldstad each had an ace in the match.
Mobile was led by Abby Andrews and Aleah Kennedy with seven kills each.
Stillman (0-11, 0-10 SSAC) will host Faulkner University on Saturday at 2 p.m., and then travel to Huntsville, Alabama on Monday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. for a makeup non-conference match at Oakwood University.
