The opening day of 2024 WPV Sitting Volleyball Final Qualifiers for Men and Women, presented by Delin Company, commenced with a burst of energy as the women’s teams clashed in thrilling encounters at the Dali International Olympic Centre on Wednesday.

In a showdown reminiscent of David versus Goliath, Ukraine squared off against Thailand in a riveting match that ultimately ended in a 3-0 (25-7, 25-23, 25-11) victory for Ukraine. Despite the lopsided scoreline, Thailand proved their mettle by pushing Ukraine to their limits in the second set, demonstrating their ability to compete at an elite level.

With Ukraine ranked among the top 10 teams globally, this match underscored the competitive spirit and potential of emerging nations like Thailand in sitting volleyball.

Meanwhile, in the all-Asian clash between World No. 10 Japan and No. 14 Iran, the latter outplayed the higher ranked squad, securing a convincing 3-0 (25-7, 25-19, 25-6) win. Iran’s relentless performance proved challenging for Japan despite their efforts to rally in the second set and clinching the match in straight sets.

In another captivating fixture, Germany faced off against hosts China in an exhibition match that showcased both skill and sportsmanship.

Despite a valiant effort from the German team, China emerged victorious with a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-18, 25-9). However, Germany’s performance did not go unnoticed, as they showcased resilience throughout the match, indicating their readiness to take on future challenges in the eight-day tournament.
