LOS ANGELES – The six-time national champion USC beach volleyball team will play in the 2023 Surf City Collegiate Challenge on Huntington Beach sand this weekend (Oct. 28-29).

Hosted by Relentless Volleyball, play is set to begin at 8 a.m. PT on Saturday (Oct. 28) and Sunday (Oct. 29).

Among teams in attendance with the Women of Troy are Loyola Marymount, Long Beach State, Boise State, Texas, Arizona State, Saint Mary’s College, San Jose State, Arizona, CUI, Vanguard, Pepperdine, Cal Poly, and Santa Clara.

Similar to the format used in last week’s AVCA West Coast Qualifier, pairs from each school will be seeded into three tiered divisions and then broken into pools at each level. Team’s No. 1 and No. 2 pairs will play in the AVCA Championship Bid division, third and fourth seeded pairs will play in the AA Division, and pairs seeded fifth and below play in the A Division.

Following pool play, each division will play down an elimination brackets broken into gold, silver, bronze, and copper levels to determine divisional champions.

Last week, three-time AVCA All-American senior Megan Kraft (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) and All-Pac-12 sophomore Madison White (Scottsdale, Ariz./ASU Preparatory Academy) captured the AVCA Western Qualifier title.

Under fifth-year head coach Dain Blanton, the USC beach volleyball team captured its third straight NCAA Championship (fifth NCAA title and sixth national title) in 2023. The Women of Troy finished the year ranked No. 1 and had an overall record of 32-5. USC added two more AVCA All-Americans to its history books with the third selection for Megan Kraft and the first-career honor for Delaynie Maple. Kraft was named the Pac-12’s Player of the Year while she and Maple earned Pac-12 Pair of the Year laurels. Both were named to the Pac-12 All-Conference Team and were joined by Madison Shields and Madison White. Blanton finished his fourth season with a 105-15 career record and Gustavo Rocha was chosen as the AVCA National Assistant Coach of the Year.
