USC Men's Volleyball’s Dillon Klein Selected for All-MPSF and MPSF All-Freshman Honors

Men’s Volleyball | April 18, 2023

LOS ANGELES – USC men’s volleyball freshman outside hitter Dillon Klein (Loyola HS/Pacific Palisades, Calif.) was named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s All-MPSF second team and to the MPSF All-Freshman Team on Tuesday, April 18.

Klein has led the Trojans in scoring in 15 matches in his first year in the Cardinal and Gold and was chosen for MPSF/Molten Offensive Player of the Week laurels yesterday (April 17). He was also tabbed as the Off the Block National Attacker of the Week on Feb. 27.

Klein has played in all 25 of USC’s matches this spring with 22 starts and made appearances in all but two sets of action (95 of 97). He leads the Trojans in points (4.17 pps) and ranks fourth in the MPSF and 25th nationally in scoring. In the conference, Klein also ranks third in kills (3.62 kps, 22nd nationally) and is fourth in attacks (7.81 aps, 24th in the nation). His .276 hitting percentage rates 12th in the MPSF. Klein had season highs of 29 kills, 52 attacks, and 31 points in the Trojans’ five-set win over Stanford on Feb. 26. He has also registered first-year highs of three aces in a match (at CUI, April 13), eight digs (twice), and six blocks (vs. Grand Canyon, Feb. 15).

Klein’s selection to the All-MPSF second team makes him the 52nd Trojan to earn all-conference honors as he brings home the 91st all-conference award in program history. He is also the 13th USC player to be honored on the MPSF’s All-Freshman Team since its inception in 1993. Last year, Simon Gallas was chosen to the All-MPSF first team and Lucas FrassrandChris Hall, and Sam Kobrine were each named to the All-MPSF second team.

The 12th-ranked Trojans concluded the regular season with a 10-15 overall record and went 3-9 in MPSF matches to finish in sixth place. As the six seed, USC will take on MPSF tournament host and third-seeded Stanford (13-12, 6-6 MPSF) in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday (April 19) at Maples Pavilion. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. PT and the match will be shown live on FloVolleyball.

In its history, the USC men’s volleyball program has captured four NCAA championships while appearing in 15 NCAA tournaments and has produced 21 Olympians, 34 first-team All-Americans, and seven College Players of the Year.
