Canton, MO- The Vikings hit the road for the first of their two games over the weekend. They were able to get down to business as they quickly defeated Culver-Stockton in a three-set sweep with scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-21.
Set 1: Grand View University 25 | Culver-Stockton College 15
The Vikings started scoring quickly at Nicolas Vattier (SO/Santiago, Chile) picked up a kill as the first point of the game assisted by Zeo Meyer (JR/Wheaton, IL ). This would help spark a Grand View run setting them up with a 7-2 lead. The Vikings were helped by a pair of Wildcat errors before Vattier collected another kill. Isaiah Kalima-Izumi (SO/Waimanalo, HI ) was able to add on a pair of aces before Bayron Valdez (JR/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) added a kill assisted by Meyer. Shortly after Meyer was able to hand out another assist to Daniel Wong (SR/Campbell, CA ) who was able to help extend the Viking lead to 8 points, 18-10. Wong and Valdez both added on another kill before the Vikings took set number one thanks to a wildcat’s service error, 25-15.
Set 2: Grand View University 25 | Culver-Stockton College 18
Just like the first set the Vikings started to score early and never looked back, quickly jumping out to a 9-3 lead. This run was thanks to 5 kills from Wong who commanded the ball well in the early stages of this set. Nickolas Lima (FR/Curitiba, Brazil ) also was able to get in on the action as he got his own kill, assisted by Meyer. After a few more wildcat errors and a kill from Kalima-Izumi, the Wildcats were forced to take a timeout. Wong got right back to work after the timeout as he collected another kill. Gioele Iacono (SO/Milan, Italy ) added some offensive help for the Vikings with a kill before Lima was able to close out the second set, 25-18 in favor of the Vikings.
Set 3: Grand View University 25 | Culver-Stockton College 21
The Wildcats came out with a spark as they traded points with the Vikings in the early stages of the third set. But after a Meyer Kill and three blocks from Iacono, with Brendan Edgington (SR/Ankeny, IA ) assisting on one block, the Vikings took the lead back. Michael Meachem (JR/Mesa, AZ ) provided a boost on offense as he added another kill followed by a Kalima-Izumi kill which forced a Wildcat timeout. Dalton Dencklau (SR/Lehigh, IA ) joined the party as he collected his own kill before Nicolas Marion (FR/Jundiai, Brazil)…
