Vikings Down Valor on the Road

Springfield, MO – The Grand View women’s volleyball team hit the road for a conference matchup with Evangel University on Friday night. The Vikings were able to come away with a key road victory as they took down the Valor in four sets with scores 25-27, 25-23, 25-23, and 25-17.

Set 1: Grand View University 25 l Evangel University 27

Grand View began the night by falling behind in the early goings of the first set and faced a 6-9 deficit after the Valor went on a 4-0 scoring run. The Vikings were eventually able to draw the set even at 14-14 when Sydney Beasley (SO/Darlington, WI) recorded a service ace. Grand View gained the little follow the tie, but Evangel was able to counter with another scoring run that put the Valor up by one, 20-21. The two teams would trade points back-and-forth until another tie at the 25-25 after a kill by Taylor Carey (SR/Waukee, IA). The Valor went on to win the next two points to take the set.

Set 2: Grand View University 25 l Evangel University 23

It was a hot start for the Vikings in the second set as they came out of the gates with a 5-0 scoring streak. The Valor caught up with the Vikings in the middle stage of the set and tied it up at 14-14. Grand View quickly countered, however, to regain its lead behind a 3-0 scoring run and forced a timeout from the Valor. Down the stretch, Evangel was able to mount another comeback and drew even at the 23-23, but the Vikings remained resilient and won the following two points to tie the match at one set apiece.

Set 3: Grand View University 25 l Evangel University 23

In the third, the Vikings and Valor played a competitive first few points, but it was the Vikings with the slight advantage after an Ellie Dougherty (FR/Omaha, NE) kill made it 10-9. Throughout the middle stages Evangel claimed a two-point lead, but the Vikings fought back and went out in front on another Beasley kill, 21-20. Grand View was able to hold off Evangel for the remainder of the set and once again went to Beasley for another kill to close the set.

Set 4: Grand View University 25 l Evangel University 17

The Vikings started out the fourth set in complete control by opening on a 6-0 scoring streak with Beasley slamming home four kills during that span.
