Des Moines, IA – The Grand View women’s volleyball team returned home to host the 2022 Grand View Women’s Volleyball Tournament and started its weekend off with a match against No. 15 Bellevue University on Friday night. Unfortunately for the Vikings the beginning of the tournament began with a loss in straight sets with scores of 21-25, 18-25, and 15-25.

Set 1: Grand View University 21 l Bellevue University 25

The Vikings and Bruins began set one with competitive, back and forth action that had the two squads draw even at 8-8 in the early goings after a kill from Sydney Beasley (SO/Darlington, WI). A few moments later, Grand View found itself down but rebounded with a 3-0 scoring run to tie the set back up at 15-15. Shortly after, another 3-0 scoring run by the Vikings saw them claim a one-point lead over the Bruins at the 18-17 mark. However, Bellevue’s offense got in a groove down the stretch and that momentum carried it to the set win.

Set 2: Grand View University 18 l Bellevue University 25

It the second set, the Vikings faced an early deficit down 3-7, but eventually pulled within one at 8-9 on back-to-back blocks by the combination of Beasley and Alesha Johnson (JR/Council Bluffs, IA) and Ellie Dougherty (FR/Omaha, NE) recording a solo. The Bruins quickly regained the edge over the next few points and stretched out their lead to 11-17 and forced a timeout from the Vikings. Following the timeout, it was much of the same for the remainder of the set as Grand View was never able to break through the Bruins defense to make a dent in the deficit.

Grand View started the third set by taking the first four points, but its lead was short lived, and Bellevue jumped ahead 8-9. Bellevue continued to control the set after the timeout and the Vikings failed to mount a comeback to force a fourth set.
