Vikings Drop One to Park University In 4 Sets

Parkville, MO- The Vikings were back in action this week as they showed down against conference opponent Park University. The Vikings were able to jump out to a quick 1-set lead before the pirates were able to battle back and win the game 3-1 with scores of 26-24, 25-21, 25-23, and 25-18.  

Set 1: Grand View University 26 | Park University 24

Zeo Meyer (JR/Wheaton, IL ) was able to help the Vikings get on the board as he collected his first kill of the match. Before Nickolas Lima (FR/Curitiba, Brazil ) was able to help add on his own kill. Daniel Wong (SR/Campbell, CA ) also did some scoring as he picked up a kill assisted by Meyer. Park went on a short run before Grand View took a timeout to get some momentum back. Out of the timeout Park had a service error and then Nicolas Vattier (SO/Santiago, Chile) and Lima combined for a block. Vattier and Lima would both pick up kills to give the Vikings a one-point advantage late in the set. Bayron Valdez (JR/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) would pick up three kills before forcing Park to take a timeout to regroup. Which was quickly followed up by another Valdez Kill.  And then Adalberto Gonzalez (SO/Devurge, Dominican Republic) was able to put the first set away with a kill giving the Vikings an early 1-0 lead after a 26-24 win. 

Set 2: Grand View University 21 | Park University 25

Vikings started the second set strong by helping force back-to-back errors on the Pirates with a block from Wong. Meyer also picked up another kill before Lima added another. After trading points for a while, Grand View took their first timeout of the set. Valdez got the scoring going again for the Vikings with another kill. Another handful of errors helped lift the Vikings up to bring them back within 2 points before Valdez picked up back-to-back kills forcing park to take a timeout. The Vikings tried to put together a run late, but the Pirates took control and finished out set number 2 with a 25-21 win. 

Set 3: Grand View University 23 | Park University 25

The Vikings jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and were able to keep the momentum as it reached a 7-4 advantage. The teams traded points through the middle of the set before Meyer was able to get a big kill to spark the Vikings. Vattier got in on the run as he got a kill. And Erick Villar Cordero (SR/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) was able to tack on an ace to help the Vikings. Grand…
