Vikings Drop Second Pool Play Match to Dakota Wesleyan

Sioux City, IA – The Grand View women’s volleyball team continued pool play at the 2021 NAIA National Championship with its second match of the day from the Tyson Event Center as it took on Dakota Wesleyan University Tuesday evening. The Vikings would go on to get swept by the Tigers with scores of 21-25, 23-25, 19-25.

Set 1: Grand View University 21 l Dakota Wesleyan University 25

The Vikings and Tigers got the first set started by matching each other point-for-point and came to a 13-13 draw. From there, it was Dakota Wesleyan who found some momentum and took a four-point lead at the 14-18 mark. Grand View was able to cut the deficit down to one, off a kill from Taylor Carey (SR/Waukee, IA), but couldn’t complete the comeback and dropped the set 21-25.

Set 2: Grand View University 23 l Dakota Wesleyan University 25

In set two, Grand View found itself in trouble early as it fell behind 5-11. Dakota Wesleyan would eventually stretch the lead out to nine at 9-18 as it took advantage of a couple errors made by the Vikings. Grand View battled its way back into the match and eventually tied it at 21-21 thanks to a 6-0 scoring spurt. However, the Vikings couldn’t complete the comeback for a second-straight set as the Tigers just barely held on 23-25.

Set 3: Grand View University 19 l Dakota Wesleyan University 25

The third set saw the Vikings and Tigers battle to an 8-8 draw in the early stages after a Miranda Greathouse (SR/Ankeny, IA) kill. The draw would come to an end after Dakota Wesleyan jumped out to five-point lead due to a 3-0 scoring run to make the score 10-15. Grand View struggled to find any momentum from there as it couldn’t overcome the five-point deficit for the remainder of the set.

Key Players…

Offensively, the Vikings were led by Alexa Aldrich-Ingram (SR/Iowa City, IA) with 14 kills and Lauren Bair (SR/Braddyville, IA) was next in line with 11 kills. Defensively, Chevy Wagner-Chun (SO/Waianae, HI) totaled 17 digs over the course of the match.
