Vikings Fall in Game Two of the Hampton Inn Classic

Columbia, MO – Grand View University Women’s Volleyball team fell to the Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan to finish day one of the Hampton Inn Classic, in three sets, 22-25, 13-25, 20-25. 

Set 1: Grand View University 22 l Indiana Wesleyan University 25

The first set for the Vikings was back and forth the whole way. The Vikings came out hot right away starting with a kill by Chloe McDermott (FR/Yankton, SD). The whole way through the first set the Vikings trailed by no more then three points. After head coach Devon Wells called a timeout, the Vikings came out hot tying the game by forcing errors out of the Wildcats. 

Set 2: Grand View University 13 l Indiana Wesleyan University 25

In set two, The Vikings would struggle to score and dug themselves a hole early in the set. Other than three kills by three different Vikings Emily Box (JR/West Point, IA), Taylor Carey (SR/Waukee, IA), and Sydney Beasley (SO/Darlington, WI) the team would rely on errors out of the Wildcats including four service errors. 

Set 3: Grand View University 15 l Indiana Wesleyan University 25

Taylor Carey was on the money for the Vikings in the third set, tallying four of her seven kills during the set. Back to Back kills by Carey which were assisted by Alesha Johnson (JR/Council Bluffs, IA) and Peyton Cook (SO/Underwood, IA) resulted in tying the game up and forcing the Wildcats into a timeout. The Vikings showed a lot of grit throughout the entire set keeping it close the entire way. Brooke Flater (SR/Grundy Center, IA) tied the game up at 18-18, and immediately after Sierra Wright (JR/Runnells, IA) gave the Vikings a one-point advantage with an ace. After the run the Vikings would go scoreless for the rest of the set. 

Key Players…

Offensively, Taylor Carey led the way for the Vikings in kills marking down 7, following her efforts was Chloe Mcdermott with 6. Sydney Beasley was next for the Vikings with 4 kills. Peyton Cook stayed consistent with assisting her teammates with a count of 12 assists. Defensivley the Vikings were led with Chevy Wagner-Chun (JR/Waianae, HI) hustle recieving 14 total digs. 

Up Next…

The Vikings will compete against No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan at 4:00 PM back in Columbia. Indiana Wesleyan had just upset the No. 3 team in the nation, Bellevue, prior to their match.
