Peru, NE – The Grand View women’s volleyball team hit the court on Tuesday night for its first conference matchup of the season against Peru State. The Vikings couldn’t claim the road victory, however, as they lost in five sets 25-18, 19-25, 25-16, 24-26 and 11-15.
Set 1: Grand View University 25 l Peru State College 18
In the early goings of the first set Grand View found some momentum after a 6-0 scoring run pushed it out to a 9-6 lead. The Vikings then extended their lead to 18-8 through the middle stages with an impressive 8-0 scoring streak. Taylor Carey (SR/Waukee, IA) led the for Grand View during the scoring streak by registering two kills. The Bobcats were able to chip away at the Vikings lead when they made the score 22-18, but Grand View responded with three consecutive kills from Brooke Flater (SR/Grundy Center, IA), Sydney Beasley (SO/Darlington, WI), and Emily Box (JR/West Point, IA) to close out the set.
Set 2: Grand View University 19 l Peru State College 25
The second set started out very similar to the first one with the Vikings once again grabbing an early lead, 9-6. Over the course of the middle stage of the set, however, Peru State strung together a couple of scoring runs and eventually took the lead at the 16-19 mark. The Grand View offense was unable to find a rhythm to mount a comeback in the closing stage and the Bobcats evened the match at one set apiece.
Set 3: Grand View University 25 l Peru State College 16
After dropping the second set, the Vikings came out in the third set aggressive and jumped ahead early on. A kill from Chloe McDermott (FR/Yankton, SD) highlighted the attack from Grand View and increased its lead to five at the 7-2 mark. The Vikings continued to push forward and were able to capitalize on a few Peru State errors, which led to a 5-0 scoring run to make the score 15-9. Beasley continued her stellar night by scoring three of Grand View’s final seven points to secure the set and put the Vikings back in front 2-1.
Set 4: Grand View University 24 l Peru State College 26
The fourth set was the most highly contested between the Vikings and the Bobcats with the Vikings claiming a slight edge early on at the 10-8 mark. Grand View was able to gain a little breathing room later with the score at 16-11, but Peru State immediately responded scoring five of the next six points to force a timeout from the Vikings.
