Des Moines, IA – The Vikings capped off their homestretch by hosting the Peru State College Bobcats. The Vikings dominated in all aspects and come out victorious with scores of 25-11, 25-8, and 25-13.
Set 1: Grand View University 25 l Peru State College 11
The Vikings started Saturday afternoon with a big 8-1 lead over the bobcats. A Melodee Schultee service ace would push the Viking’s lead up to 8 and would force the Bobcats to respond which they did with a kill of their own but it was not enough to counter their errors. A kill by Emily box and another Melodee Schultee ace followed by a kill from Rylie Olson would force the Bobcats into another timeout. After the timeout, the Vikings would sail comfortably to a first-set win after a monster kill by Taylor Carey assisted by Alesha Johnson.
Set 2: Grand View University 25 l Peru State College 8
In the second set, Grand View started things off hot once again with a triple kill out of Ellie Dougherty. Giving the Vikings another early lead of 12-3 after a Sydney Beasley kills. A kill by Emily Box would give the Vikings a bigger lead of 9. Taylor Carey would get her 3rd kill of the set and would grant the Vikings their biggest lead of the set and match at 22-6. The set would end in favor of the Vikings after a huge go-get kill from Beasley.
Set 3: Grand View University 25 l Peru State College 13
The Bobcats would see their only lead of the match in the third set. A couple of kills and an error by the Vikings would put them down early 3-1. Johnson would get things back on track with an ace and an assist to Beasley who finished the play with the kill advancing the Viking’s lead to 7-4. Rylie Olson would open up the Viking’s lead with her kill pushing it out to 18-8, followed by another kill from Carey. Johnson would find a sneak attack and give the Vikings the 21-10 lead, and the solid afternoon from the Vikings would be capped off with a game-winning block duo from Olson and Flater finalizing the set 25-13.
Key Players…
On offense, the Vikings were extremely balanced finding 6 kills from Taylor Carey, Sydney Beasley, and Ellie Dougherty. Rylie Olson would fill in behind with 5 kills. Alesha Johnson was stellar once again finding her teammates and she tallied 21 assists. Defensively the Vikings were led by Chevy Wagner-Chun with 18 digs, and Brooker Flater assisted on 3 blocks.
