Des Moines, IA – The No.1 ranked Grand View men’s volleyball team concluded its regular season in convincing fashion on Tuesday night. The Vikings swept conference foe Clarke University in straight sets with scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-15. To go along with the celebration of Senior Night, Grand View ended the regular season with an overall record of 21-2 and went 16-2 in conference play.
Set 1: Grand View University 25 l Clarke University 20
After a fairly even first couple of points to start the first set, Grand View gained a bit of an advantage and a four-point lead off a kill by Daniel Wong (SO/Campbell, CA) which made the score 9-5. A few moments later, Clarke cut the Grand View lead down to one, but a key 4-0 scoring run by the Vikings saw their lead go back up to 15-10. Through the remainder of the set the Vikings were able to keep the Pride at a distance never letting the lead get to lower than two points and it wasn’t before long that the set was won on a kill from Oscar Manana (SR/Bronx, NY).
Set 2: Grand View University 25 l Clarke University 18
In the second set, the Vikings faced an early deficit at 3-5, but rallied to win five of the next six points to go out in front, 8-6. Grand View’s offense found a groove from that point on and increased its lead through the middle stages all the way to seven at the 18-11 mark when Daniel Galili (FR/Shomrat, Israel) slammed home a kill. Clarke was able to make a late push with a 3-0 run towards the end of the set, but the Vikings went back to Galili who ended the set with another kill.
Set 3: Grand View University 25 l Clarke University 15
The Vikings began the third set by putting together three strings of 3-0 scoring streaks to grab an early 9-4 lead. Grand View then capitalized on some errors from Clarke, which led to a pair of 3-0 runs, and caused the Pride to call a timeout with the score now at 15-9. The theme of 3-0 runs from the Vikings continued in the closing stages of the match as the Vikings managed to record another pair to help secure the victory.

On offense, Daniel Wong led the Vikings as he collected 12 kills to lead all scorers. On the defensive side, Erick Villar-Cordero provided Grand View with a team-leading nine digs in the match.
