Des Moines, IA – Grand View women’s volleyball held its annual Dig Pink Night on Thursday evening as it hosted conference foe Graceland University. The Vikings made quick work of the Yellowjackets in a sweep with scores of 25-14, 25-23, and 25-13. During the pregame ceremony, Emily Box (JR/West Point, IA) and Brooke Flater were honored as they became recipients of the LeAnn Stefani Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Set 1: Grand View University 25 l Graceland University 14
The Vikings started the first set off a bit slow as they fell behind 2-6, but that deficit was quickly erased as the Vikings responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead, 9-6. Grand View continued to play well coming off the big and stretched its lead to 17-13 after three-straight points and two service aces by Rylie Olson (SR/Osage, IA). The Vikings didn’t take much longer to close out the set winning eight of the next nine points.
Set 2: Grand View University 25 l Graceland University 23
In the second set, the Vikings and Yellowjackets dueled it out to a 9-9 start, but Grand View jumped ahead with a 4-0 scoring run which forced a timeout from Graceland. Following the timeout, the Vikings were able to maintain their lead through the middle stage by playing through Ellie Dougherty (FR/Omaha, NE) to make the score 19-12. The Yellowjackets eventually made a comeback push and cut the lead down to 24-23, but Taylor Carey (SR/Waukee, IA) was able to end the set with a kill and put the Vikings up two sets to none.
Set 3: Grand View University 25 l Graceland University 13
Grand View was in complete control from the beginning of the third set as a kill from Emily Box put the score at 7-2. The Vikings offense continued to roll as the set went along and were able to double-up the Yellowjackets at the 18-9 mark after a Sydney Beasley (SO/Darlington, WI) kill. A 5-0 run by the Vikings down the stretch was the final blow of the night and Grand View earned its second sweep of the week.

The Vikings had a very balanced attack on the night as no Vikings tallied double-digit kills. Sydney Beasley and Ellie Dougherty led the way with nine, while Rylie Olson and Taylor Carey were right behind with eight. On the defensive side, Beasley provided five blocks and Carey contributed with four blocks.
