SEASON OVERVIEW
- This year marks the 46th season of Virginia Volleyball, which held its inaugural season in 1979.
- In 45 complete seasons, UVA is 678-767 (.469) all-time.
- The Cavaliers are set to host 16 home matches in 2024, including the second-ever in John Paul Jones Arena against Miami on Oct. 6.
- Head coach Shannon Wells is entering her fourth season at the helm.
SERIES HISTORY
- Virginia leads the all-time series with ETSU, which dates back to 1980, 4-3. The two teams last squared off in Gainesville, Florida, at the University of Florida and the Cavaliers won in four sets.
- West Virginia leads the all-times series against the Cavaliers, 5-3. The Mountaineers won the first five matchups of the series, but the two teams have not met since 1996 and UVA is currently riding a three-match win streak.
- The Cavaliers lead the all-times series with Liberty, 31-5, including an 8-3 mark in Lynchburg. The Lady Flames won the previous two matchups in straight sets in 2018 and 2019.
HOT START
- UVA is off to a 5-1 start for the third straight season under head coach Shannon Wells.
- Prior to Wells’ arrival, UVA had not won five of its first six contests of the season since 2014.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Cavaliers went 2-1 at last weekend’s home non-conference tournament, the Cavalier Classic.
- After falling to Coastal Carolina in straight sets (14-25, 21-25, 18-25) , UVA defeated Hofstra (25-14, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22) and the Chanticleers (25-22, 21-25, 19-25, 25-15, 15-13) in a rematch.
- Elayna Duprey and Brooklyn Borum both represented the Hoos on the Cavalier Classic All-Tournament Team. For the second time this season, Duprey tallied a season-high 20 kills and hit .410 in the Cavaliers’ win over the Pride.
