CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia (3-0) open its 2024 home campaign this weekend (Sept. 6-7), when it hosts the annual Cavalier Classic at Memorial Gymnasium. The Cavaliers challenge Coastal Carolina (0-3) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. before competing in a doubleheader on Saturday against Hofstra (2-1) at noon and a rematch with the Chanticleers at 6:30 p.m. Additionally, CCU and the Pride kick off Cavalier Classic action Friday at noon.
Admission to this weekend’s tournament is free to the public. All three UVA matches are set to stream on ACC Network Extra.

SERIES HISTORY
- Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series with UVA, 2-1. Virginia won the inaugural matchup in 1997, but the Chanticleers swept the previous two meetings, including last year’s neutral-site match at UMBC (20-25, 17-25, 22-25). Also in last year’s contest, UVA libero Milan Gomillion posted a season-high 27 digs, which tied the UVA record by an individual in a three-set match.
- Hofstra leads the all-time series, which began in 1984, 3-7. The Pride were winners of the first seven meetings, but UVA has swept the last three matchups dating back to 1992. The Cavaliers and Hofstra last went head-to-head Maryland Invite in 2021, which marked Shannon Wells’ first career victory as head coach.
