PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Facing its third top-15 opponent in four matches, the Virginia volleyball team (8-11, 1-8 ACC) fell to No. 7 Pittsburgh (17-3, 8-1 ACC) at Fitzgerald Field House, 3-0 (13-25, 13-25, 21-25).
The Cavaliers were led by Veresia Yon (Eight kills, six blocks) and Abby Tadder (Eight kills, two blocks). Milan Gomillion tied for a match-high nine digs.
Set 1: Pittsburgh 25, Virginia 13
The Panthers opened up to a commanding 13-3 lead over the Cavaliers and didn’t look back. Despite attempts from the Hoos to get back within striking distance, Pitt scored five of the last six points to claim the first set of the contest. Virginia was outhit .312-.000 in the opening frame.
Set 2: Pittsburgh 25, Virginia 13
The Hoos claimed their first lead of the match after taking a 5-3 lead over the Panthers early in the set. Pitt would quickly turn the tables, launching on an 8-0 run to regain momentum and keep Virginia out of striking distance for the rest of the period. Pitt outhit UVA .605-.235 in the second set.
Set 3: Pittsburgh 25, Virginia 21
The Cavaliers put together their best set against the Panthers in the final frame, coming out of the break to a 7-3 advantage. Virginia did its best to stave off Pitt, holding its lead for a majority of the set, before the hosts pulled ahead 18-17. Pitt would then outscore UVA 8-3 down the stretch to complete the sweep. Yon posted four kills and three blocks.

- Virginia led in blocks against Pitt 9.0-3.5. The Panthers are second in the nation in blocks per set (3.16).
- With the win, Pitt extends its all-time series lead to 18-3 and have won 11 of the previous matchups.
