OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss capped off a perfect weekend with a sweep of Tennessee Tech Saturday afternoon inside the Gillom Center. With the victory, the Rebels were crowned Ole Miss Invitational Champions.
Not dropping a set all weekend, Bre Henry‘s squad swept its way through the home tournament. Payton Brgoch shined for the Rebels, leading the offense with 10 kills on 14 attempts and helping the defense hold Tennessee Tech to a mere .052 hitting percentage with five blocks. Vivian Miller and Sasha Ratliff also had strong days, finishing with six kills each, and Shayla Meyer tallied five kills to go along with three blocks.
Ole Miss and Tennessee Tech battled back and forth in a tight first set that featured eight ties and four lead changes. The Golden Eagles found separation with a trio of 3-0 runs to take a 15-9 edge. Despite the deficit, the Rebs remained composed. Anna Bair led the charge as Ole Miss scored five unanswered points to climb back into the set, and Meyer helped finish the cause to give the Rebels set one, 25-23.
After a close victory in the opening set, Ole Miss left no doubt in the second. Brgoch and Ratliff took over in the front row, building up an 11-6 advantage. Brgoch continued to power the Rebels, extending the lead to nine points after she tallied three kills and two blocks on a personal 5-1 stretch. Ole Miss held the cushion the rest of the way, going up two sets on Tennessee Tech with a 25-16 win.
The Rebels’ dominance carried over into the final set as they capped off the sweep. Maggie Miller delivered a service ace to put Ole Miss up 10-4; however, the Golden Eagles wouldn’t go away…
