Volleyball Edged in Season Finale


SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women’s volleyball team dropped its final match of the 2022 season, falling 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 28-26, 25-15) against NC State at Women’s Building on Saturday afternoon.

Following the match, the Orange honored four seniors, Lauren Woodford, Polina Shemanova, Bre Walp, and Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk. Prior to the start of the match, Syracuse recognized three seniors for the Wolfpack.

Syracuse (11-17, 7-11 ACC) picked up 11 service aces, including two each from Shemanova, Woodford, Lokhmanchuk, Raina Hughes and Riley Hoffman. Naomi Franco paced Syracuse with 15 kills while Woodford put up a season-best 33 assists. Hughes assisted on four blocks for the Orange, who finished with Shemanova contributing three, in addition to her 13 kills.

The Orange hit for .500 in the second set, putting down 13 kills on 22 swings with just two attacking errors. Syracuse overcame a slow start in the first set; after hitting 0.086, ‘Cuse hit for 0.289 over the next three frames.

NC State (16-13, 10-8 ACC) finished with a .336 attack percentage, hitting north of .300 in each set it won. Martina Leoniak finished with a match-high 14 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
