Volleyball Has Winning Streak Snapped Against Illinois-Springfield Friday

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The No. 13 Lewis University women’s volleyball team saw their five-game winning streak come to an end as the Flyers lost to Illinois Springfield, 3-0, Friday (Sept. 30)

SET BREAKDOWN

FIRST SET: Illinois-Springfield 25, No. 13 Lewis 20

  • Illinois-Springfield jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the first set before Stenman recorded a kill to end that rally.
  • Lewis cut it down to 8-3 before the Prairie Stars scored six in a row to make it 14-3.
  • Taki got the Flyers right back in the set after back-to-back kills. 
  • The Prairie Stars made it 22-15 late in the first set before the Flyers scored five in a row to cut it down to two (22-20) after an ace by Stenman.
  • UIS won the last three points to win the set 25-20.

SECOND SET:  Illinois-Springfield 25, No. 13 Lewis 23

  • Lewis jumped out to an early 5-1 lead after a kill by Ray. 
  • UIS bounced back and went on an 7-1 advantage to grab a 8-6 lead early in the second set. 
  • Back-to-back kills by Schlechte and Taki gave Lewis a 10-9 lead.
