Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse Volleyball is set to host the Syracuse Tournament, as they welcome Army, Hofstra, and Yale for a three-game home stand.
‘Cuse will kick off the tournament with its long-awaited home opener tomorrow night, facing the Army Black Knights at 5:00 p.m. The squad will then face Hofstra (11:00 a.m) and Yale (7:30 p.m.) in doubleheader action on Friday, September 9th, with all games streaming on ACCNX.
Thursday will be the 17th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Army. Syracuse leads the series with a 12-4 edge. The two squads haven’t faced each other since 2008 when the Black Knights took down the Orange in three sets (9/14/08). Army enters the tournament with a 2-5 record, coming off of a four-set (3-1) win against UConn.
The Orange lead Hofstra 10-8-1, their last meeting was on September 16th, 2017, where ‘Cuse took down the Pride in four sets with a final score of 3-1. The Pride enters the tournament with an overall record of 2-5, with their two wins coming against Seton Hall and Niagara.
Yale comes to Syracuse with a 2-1 record after starting the season at the Seminole Volleyball Invitational. The Bulldogs two wins so far this season came against Florida A&M and James Madison, the lone loss was to Florida State in straight sets. The Orange hold a 5-0 series edge over the Bulldogs. In the last meeting on September 3rd, 2001, Syracuse swept the Bulldogs in straight-sets.
Orange fans can tune in on Saturday, September 10th to hear one of their own on the airwaves of ACCNX, as Polina Shemanova will be the color analyst for the two neutral site games. Hofstra vs. Army will play at 10:00 a.m. and Yale vs. Hofstra will start at 3:00 p.m.
