BERKELEY – California volleyball welcomed the first two members of its incoming class on Wednesday, with Grace Agolli (Pace Academy/A5) and Kate Mansfield (Plano West Senior High/Madfrog) both signing National Letters of Intent to play for the Golden Bears beginning in 2024.

Agolli, a 6-foot right-side hitter from Atlanta, comes to Cal with four Georgia High School Association (GHSA) state titles under her belt and four consecutive PrepVolleyball Top 150 nods (2020-23). She is a two-time 4A State Player of the Year (2022-23) and was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) First-Team All-American, All-Region 3 and First-Team Best and Brightest in 2023. In the 2022 season, she also earned 4A Region Player of the Year honors, was an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) 16 Open All American and appeared on the AVCA Phenom Watch List. Agolli also excels in the classroom as a member of the National Honors Society.

“Grace is a versatile setter that will provide more options for us as a team,” interim head coach Crissy Jones Schoonderwoerd said. “She is a talented setter and pin hitter with great energy. I look forward to coaching her on the court.”

Mansfield, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker from Plano, Texas, is a reigning USA Volleyball All Star Champion and a former AAU Nationals All Star. Her other career accolades include two First-Team Texas 6-6A All-District nods and a 2022 16 Open national title, as well as four straight Academic All-District honors. She is one of the top dual threats in Texas, ranking among the state’s top-50 players in both hitting percentage and total blocks.

“Kate is a very physical middle that swings with authority and is an exciting player to watch,” Jones Schoonderwoerd said. “She is a natural athlete and a really great person – she will add new talent to our squad and is an amazing culture fit.”
