Volleyball Wins Buttermaker Five-Setter – Muhlenberg College Athletics

The Muhlenberg volleyball team started the second day of the Buttermaker Tournament with a thrilling win.

The Mules (5-2) came back twice to defeat Lebanon Valley in five sets before wrapping up the Buttermaker with a 3-0 loss to Eastern.

Muhlenberg dropped the first set 25-21 before roaring back to claim the second, 25-6. It was the third straight match in which the Mules held their opponents to single digits in points in a set. Senior Alyssa Faville served eight straight points to give Muhlenberg an early 10-1 lead, and junior Esmae Oehler served nine consecutive points later in the set, including back-to-back aces.

Lebanon Valley seized the momentum back in the third set, rallying late for a 25-23 win. Again the Mules came back, forcing a fifth set with a 25-20 win in the fourth.

Muhlenberg never trailed in the decisive fifth set. It was 7-5 before the Mules scored four straight points with freshman Sierra Addy serving to open up a commanding lead. Addy finished off the set, 15-9, with her sixth kill of the match.

Sophomore Christina Marcin hit .406, putting down 16 kills with only three errors. Junior Esmae Oehler added 10 kills and junior Brooke Shiver tied her career high with 9.

Freshman Jenny Ryan dished out a career-high 25 assists, while senior Christina Dalton added 22. Senior Alyssa Faville led the defense with 23 digs, and one day after recording a career high in kills, junior Rachel Jacobs tied her career best of 6 blocks.
