THE ACTION

  • Montefameglio turned in three aces during a match-opening 7-0 run, and senior Grace Pierce’s kill made it 11-3, but the Purple Knights stayed in the set with an 11-6 surge. O’Connor had two blocks and a kill in that time, while Syverson came up with two blocks and Gallagher posted a kill and an ace, and the Purple and Gold trailed 17-14. Pacini’s kill kicked off a 3-1 spurt that put the Penmen up 20-15, but Báez Rentas’ kill later had the hosts within 21-17. However, three straight Thawnghmung kills sparked a clinching 4-0 run.
  • Two kills from first-year Chiara Di Valerio helped Southern New Hampshire claim a 7-1 lead in set No. 2 before O’Connor had a kill and Wright an ace in a 4-0 response, and the Purple Knights trailed just 8-7 on another O’Connor kill. Di Valerio’s kill pushed the Penmen lead back to 15-10, but Saint Michael’s drew even at 18-18 following a 4-0 run that featured kills by Báez Rentas and first-year Shannon Jordan (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and an ace from Krause.
