Women's Volleyball Ends Season With Three Set Loss to Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT. – The Merrimack Women’s Volleyball team closed out their season with a loss to Sacred Heart on the road.

The Basics

Score: Sacred Heart 3, Merrimack 0

Records: Sacred Heart (12-14, 11-3), Merrimack (7-20, 6-7)

How It Happened

It was a disappointing end to a promising season for the Warriors. They had the lead early up four to two. That changed in a blink of an eye after 9 unanswered points from Sacred Heart. The Pioneers would end up going on to win the first 25-17.

The second set was very close. Merrimack held a lead at 10-9 and continued to keep it within striking distance throughout the set. After losing the lead they were able to regain it at 21-20 after a pair of Cate Wright service aces. It was then the Pioneers scoring 5 of the final 6 points to win the second set 25-22.

The third set was all Sacred Heart early as they jumped out to a five to one lead and grew it to 11-4. The Warriors we’re able to climb back into it and trailed by just one 15-14. However, the Merrimack offense went stagnant and we’re only able to muster up three more points the rest of the set. Sacred Heart went on to go for a 25-17 set three win and claim the three set sweep.
