Virginia Volleyball || Virginia Kicks Off 45th Season With Cavalier Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team (9-15, 2-12 ACC) are back in action at Memorial Gymnasium this weekend to host ACC foe Notre Dame (10-13, 4-11 ACC) on Sunday (Nov. 12) at 1 p.m.

All matches hosted at Memorial Gymnasium are free to the public.


BROADCAST INFORMATION

  • Both of Virginia’s matches will be streamed on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX) through the ESPN app, which is available through participating TV providers that carry ACC Network.
  • Live stats will also be available for both matches and can be accessed through the volleyball schedule page on VirginiaSports.com

  • Fans planning to attend Virginia volleyball matches this season are encouraged to park in the Culbreth, Central Grounds or Emmet/Ivy parking garages utilizing the ParkMobile app.

  • This year marks the 45th season of Virginia Volleyball, which held its inaugural season in 1979.
  • In 44 complete seasons, UVA is 671-764 (.468)
  • The Cavaliers are set to host 14 home matches in 2023.
  • Head coach Shannon Wells is in her third season at the helm.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Virginia trails Notre Dame 7-6 in the all-time series matchup after the Cavaliers fell in four sets to the Fighting Irish earlier this year (Oct. 13)
  • While the Hoos were neck and neck with the Fighting Irish in their previous matchup, splitting the first two sets, UVA scored only 10 points in each of the final frames. Tadder tallied 14 kills on .308 hitting percentage to go along with five blocks.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Hoos fell in both of their matches on the road in the Sunshine State last weekend, falling in four sets to Miami (Nov. 3) and Florida State (Nov. 5).
  • Virginia struggled offensively when coming out of the gate but was able to hang with the Hurricanes for the remaining three sets of the match. Despite the Cavaliers taking the third set 25-19, UVA narrowly dropped the final set to the Hurricanes 23-25. Veresia Yon threw down 14 kills on a .571 hitting clip.
  • Despite playing Florida State closely in the first set and forcing extra points, Virginia dropped into a 0-2 hole before its offense exploded in the third set for a 25-12 set No. 3 win. The Hoos attempted to take momentum into the fourth set, but only tallied eight points in the final frame. Abby Tadder recorded 14 kills and three blocks while Milan Gomillion tallied 25 digs to anchor the UVA defense.
