Parkville, MO – Grand View University women’s volleyball fell in their final game of the weekend to No. 11 ranked Park University in a Heart of America match with scores of 12-25, 16-25, and 26-28.Β
Set 1: Grand View University 12 l Park UniversityΒ 25
The Vikings would start the match a little slow and the Pirates jumped out to an early lead. The team’s first kill would come from Brooke Flater (SR/Grundy Center, IA) and it would put an end to the Pirates’ 3-0 run. A Pirate error would then put the Vikings within one. A kill from Ellie Doughtery would tie things up 8-8 all, and then the Vikings would keep the match within two for the next several serves. Eventually the Pirates would get back to back kills forcing head coach Devon Wells into a timeout, the timeout wasn’t enough and the Pirates would remain comfortable for the rest of the first set.Β
Set 2: Grand View University 17Β l Park University 25
The Vikings would repeat the beginning of the first set, in the seond due t early errors. Rylie olson would get the team back in rythm with her kill on an assist from Alesha Johnson (JR/Council Bluffs, IA). Taylor Carey (SR/Waukee, IA) would put the Vikings back within two, and then another kill from Olson backed up Johnson would then make the score 8-9 in favor of the Pirates. A few timely errors would put the second set out of reach for the Vikings to climb back into.Β
Set 3: Grand View University 23Β l MidAmerica Nazarene UniversityΒ 25
The third and final set of the afternoon would be the double edged sword for the Vikings. They came out firing from alll sides, starting off with a kill out of Rylie Olson (SR/Osage, IA) making the score 1-1. Ellie Doughtery would make a sandwich of kills, with a service ace in between by Alesha Johnson, the score would then favor the Vikings 7-4. It would seem that the third set belonged to the Vikings after they jumped out to a 20-15 lead with another kill from Doughtery. However, the Pirates rallied down five to tie things 24-24. A kill from Chevy Wagner-Chun (JR/Waianae, HI) would put the Vikings into their final lead of the afternoon 26-25. back to back errors and a block woudl end the match in favor of the pirates after an impressive stretch by Grand View.Β
