In the opening matches of the PlusLiga volleyball quarterfinals, Jastrzębski Węgiel and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie secured significant victories, setting a strong pace for their respective series.
Jastrzębski Węgiel, the reigning Polish champions and leaders of this season’s regular phase, defeated Indykpol AZS Olsztyn with a convincing 3-0 win. Tomasz Fornal emerged as the most valuable player (MVP), contributing with 18 points, 69% attack efficiency, leading his team to victory in straight sets (25-18, 25-16, 25-19). Alan Souza and Manuel Armoa were the top scorers for Olsztyn, with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
On the same day, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie also triumphed over PSG Stal Nysa with a 3-0 scoreline, despite an unexpected interruption due to a fire outbreak caused by a lamp in the Nysa arena. Bartosz Kwolek, with 21 points, led Warta Zawiercie to their win, closely followed by teammates Karol Butryn and Mateusz Bieniek.
Both Jastrzębski Węgiel and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie have now established 1-0 lead ahead of the second leg of the quarterfinals, scheduled for Saturday, April 13.
