The women’s national team of Serbia started the world title defense in the best possible way—Canada fell after three sets: 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-20).
Serbia easily defeated Canada in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Thus, the defending champions enjoyed a bright start to their 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship campaign. The Tokyo Olympic bronze medalists defeated their Canadian opponents in three sets in the Pool C match that concluded the third day of action in the tournament, 25-23, 25-16, and 25-20, to get their championship defense off to a strong start.
Serbian captain Tijana Bošković, the MVP of the World Championship 2018, excelled in her team’s opening game. The 25-year-old opposite collected 23 points, constructed with a match-high 5 aces. She skipped this year’s FIVB Volleyball Nations League, obviously, to be at her best at the ongoing World Championship. Jovana Stevanović made 4 blocks. Alexa Gray scored 12 points for Canada.
Germany celebrated their first victory in the World Champs 2022. They persisted through many ups and downs to defeat Bulgaria 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21) in their opening Pool C encounter in Arnhem. Germany’s primary tactic against Bulgaria in the match was blocking. On the way to the triumph, their middle blocker, Marie Schölzel, produced 6 of her team’s 12 stuffs. Three players—outside hitters Hanna Orthmann and Lina Alsmeier, as well as middle Camilla Weitzel—shared the top scoring honors for Germany with 13 points each. Nasya Dimitrova, a middle for Bulgaria, scored a game-high 20 points. Elitsa Vasileva Atanasijević made 4 blocks.
