COLLEGE PARK, MD – Sydney Dowler was named both Big Ten Setter of the Week and Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week while Anastasia Russ was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week as the Terps hauled in honors after a stellar weekend.
The Terrapins had a historic weekend featuring a pair of road sweeps over Northwestern and No.9 Purdue, the program’s first Top-Ten road victory since joining the conference in 2014. Maryland has now swept three consecutive Big Ten road matches for the first time in program history.
Dowler quarterbacked the Terrapin offense throughout the weekend with 62 assists (10.33 per set) while also pouring in 16 digs (2.67 per set), seven blocks (1.17 per set), five kills (0.83 per set), and an ace.
Climbing up the record books, Dowler’s 1,962 assists are only 76 behind Nicole Alford for eighth place on the all-time list. She’d be the eighth Terrapin to reach the 2,000 assist mark.
An all-around star, Dowler leads this year’s team in aces, is second in digs, fourth in blocks, and sixth in kills. This marks the first time a Terrapin has ever been named Big Ten Setter of the Week.
SYDNEY. DOWLER.
What a point. What a rally.

Meanwhile, Russ caused opponents fits throughout the weekend with 15 blocks to go alongside 13 kills. She totaled nine blocks, three per set, to lead the Terrapins on Friday night.
Russ crossed 100 total blocks as a Terrapin and now has 134 in her career. She’s the first Terrapin to earn the honor since Rainelle Jones was recognized on Sept. 19 of this year.
