SEATTLE – Washington Volleyball has its first big transfer of the offseason and first for new Head Coach Leslie Gabriel, as May Pertofsky has committed to spending her fifth year as a Dawg. Pertofsky comes over from Michigan, where she was a two-time All-Region honorable mention and an All-Big Ten Freshman Team pick, with over a thousand career points scored.

“I’ve always been enamored by Seattle and when I finally got to visit, meeting Tui and the team, I instantly fell in love with the campus and the team,” says Pertofsky. “I felt comfortable right away and my visit really showed just how much the coaching staff cares for the team as people which is huge for me! I am incredibly excited for my decision and can’t wait to get in the gym with the team this summer!”

Coach Gabriel describes the 6-foot-1 Pertofsky as “a strong pin attacker and blocker that has the ability and physicality to play this game at a high level, but most importantly May embodies a lot of the values we value in our program: hard work, competition, and a team-first attitude.”

“We are so excited to have May join our program for her final year of eligibility. She will make us better with her competitive experience and knowledge.”

A Los Angeles native, Pertofsky was an Under Armour All-American and PrepVolleyball.com Senior Ace at Sierra Canyon High School before heading to Ann Arbor. She made an immediate impact, helping Michigan make the NCAA second round in 2019, starting 28 matches and posting 2.37 kills per set to make the All-Freshman Team.

Pertofsky kept up the production over the next three seasons, helping Michigan to another NCAA appearance in 2021 as she had 2.24 kills per set with 0.93 blocks per set and a team high 47 aces, an average of 0.46 per set. As a senior this past fall, she hit .297 with 2.23 kills per set to earn AVCA All-North Region honorable mention for the second-straight season.

Pertofsky was listed as both an opposite and a middle blocker on the Wolverines roster, but was honored by the AVCA as an opposite.

She has 798 career kills (2.31/set), a .287 career attack percentage, 109 career aces, 212 digs, and 252 blocks (0.8/set).
