ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, with Alex Vega ’26 earning Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive time. Vega, a freshman from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, helped the Soaring Eagles to a 1-1 record on the week, while recording 12 digs and a pair of set assists against #9 nationally-ranked Nazareth on Wednesday evening.
Elmira, who is off to one of its best starts in program history, has been anchored by Vega in the Libero position, as the first-year Soaring Eagle has recorded just three set errors in nine matches played, while recording 78 digs and 16 set assists.
The Soaring Eagles return to the floor this Saturday when hosting #2 nationally-ranked Vassar inside of Speidel Gymnasium.
