COLLEGE PARK, MD — The Big Ten Conference released its opponent rotation for the 2024 season on Thursday. With the addition of four new programs in USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington, it offers a unique change from previous seasons. Every team currently in the Big Ten will travel to the west coast once, playing two of the four new members on that west coast swing.
“Releasing the opponent rotation brings us one step closer to the next chapter of Big Ten volleyball”, said head coach Adam Hughes. The conference has built a tradition of success, and we’re still growing. This past year, we saw new attendance records and huge viewership numbers on the Big Ten Network, something we wouldn’t have thought possible just a few years ago. As our newest Big Ten members join this season, it’s clear we have an opportunity for even more growth, and I can’t wait to see what the 2024 season holds.”
The 20-game schedule will challenge Maryland throughout the season as it looks to return to the NCAA Tournament. Home matches at the XFINITY Center Pavilion will feature Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue, UCLA, and USC. On the road, the Terps will have an equally impressive schedule, facing the likes of Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Ohio State, Washington, and Wisconsin. In addition to these 14 matchups, the Terps will play both home and away matches against three opponents during the 2024 season. Those three opponents will be Michigan State, Penn State, and Rutgers.
Dates and times for these matchups will be announced at a later date.
Maryland finished the 2023 season with its third consecutive season with a winning record. Furthermore, 2023 was also its third-straight season with a win over an AVCA Top 25 team. The Terps bring back most of their production from the 2023 season, as stalwarts like Sam Csire, Sydney Dowler, Lily Gunter, Samantha Schnitta, Anastasia Russ return for another season in College Park.
