Cal’s Court One Pair Earns Top Honors

BERKELEY – Sierra Caffo and Liz Waters-Leiga of the No. 8 California beach volleyball team were named AVCA Second Team All-Americans, the organization announced Thursday afternoon. They are the fourth and fifth Golden Bears to receive the honor.

Less than an hour after receiving its first All-Pac-12 honor, Cal’s court one pair earned the prestigious All-America selection. It’s the first honor for both of the two Bears.

Caffo (LSU) and Waters-Leiga (Florida State) both transferred to Cal this season and from day one made a difference moving up from court four to court one, where they have resided for the team’s last 14 matches. With a 20-9 record this season, the two have been a part of countless big wins and moments including clinching a 3-0 win over No. 8 Stanford to send Cal to its first Pac-12 Championship final.

Caffo holds a 24-10 record this season with 10 wins on court one and is an undefeated 8-0 on courts two and four. Waters-Leiga sits at 21-9 with nine wins on court one and is an undefeated 6-0 on courts two and four.
