Edwin Sosa Named Empire 8 Co-Player of the Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, with Edwin Sosa ’25 of the Elmira College men’s volleyball team earning his second consecutive Empire 8 Player of the Week award after slamming 47 kills across three matches.

Sosa led the team in kills in each of Elmira’s matches, tallying 11 in a loss against No. 17 Nazareth, nine in a win over Houghton, and a career-high 27 in a win vs. Buffalo State, besting his previous mark of 22 kills against SUNY Potsdam on January 26 of this year. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native finished the week with a .295 hitting percentage to go along with 17 digs, seven set assists, one service ace, and five blocks in 11 sets played. Sosa totaled 52.5 points across the three matches. His five total blocks against Buffalo State were also the most the Soaring Eagle has had since his freshman year when he tallied five against Vassar on April 8, 2022.

This is the third Player of the Week honor Sosa has received this season, the others coming on March 11 when he helped Elmira take down No. 13 NYU and January 29 when he led the Soaring Eagles to a 2-1 weekend in the Elmira College Invitational.

The Purple & Gold return to the action on Friday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m., when they take on the Cardinals of St. John Fisher on the road in UVC play.
