Five Orange Named To ACC All-Academic Volleyball Team

Syracuse volleyball had a program record of five student-athletes named to the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) All-Academic Volleyball Team, announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Alyssa Bert, Riley Hoffman, Raina Hughes, Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk, and Polina Shemanova account for all Orange performers to earn the honor this year.

Shemanova, a 2022 AVCA honorable mention all-American, earned the academic accolade for the fifth time in her career. The nod caps off a stellar career for the St. Petersburg, Russia native, who also earned All-ACC, College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-District, and AVCA East All-Region honors after the 2022 campaign. Shemanova is currently working on her master’s in Broadcast and Digital Journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Bert, Hoffman, Hughes, and Lokhmanchuk were each tabbed to the academic team for the first time in their careers, respectively.

Bert, a native of Oklahoma City, Okla., was second on the squad this year with 3.17 digs per set (337 total) and third in service aces (27). The graduate student is studying for her master’s in teaching and Curriculum within the School of Education.

Hoffman is in the Psychology and Neuroscience program within the College of Arts and Sciences. The setter concluded her sophomore season second on the team with 415 set assists (4.61 aps.).

Hughes is enrolled in the Psychology program within in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Williamstown, N.J. native concluded her redshirt-freshman campaign ranked 10^th in the league in blocks per set (1.07) and 12^th in total blocks (110).

Lokhmanchuk graduated this past December with a degree in Public Health from the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. The senior wrapped up her final season ranked 11^th in the conference in kills average (3.29) and led the team with 23 service aces (0.35 sas.).

Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
