UPLAND, Ind. – The 2022 NAIA Women’s Volleyball Championship is set to commence with pool play competition at the final site in Sioux City, Iowa, beginning on Wednesday, November 30, inside the Tyson Events Center.
There are now 24 teams remaining in the chase for a national championship, each of which has been placed within one of eight three-team pools. Pool play will unfold between November 30 and December 2, with the winners of each pool advancing to the National Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday, December 3.
No. 11 Taylor (31-5) was assigned to Pool E, alongside No. 4 Corban (29-4) and RV Bethel (22-11). Corban and Bethel will first square off on Wednesday, November 30, at 5:00 pm ET. Taylor will then battle Bethel on Thursday, December 1, at 5:00 pm ET, followed by a 5:00 pm ET matchup with Corban on Friday, December 2.
Corban, the top seed in Pool E and a school situated in Salem, Oregon, has advanced to the NAIA National Championship Pool Play bracket in each of the past five seasons, with its current win total of 29 matching the school’s highest mark when entering pool play. Corban is representative of three teams from the Cascade Collegiate Conference to advance to pool play competition, joining No. 1 Eastern Oregon and RV Southern Oregon among the nation’s final 24 teams.
Eastern Oregon and Corban, two of the NAIA’s top four teams, squared off in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship match on Saturday, November 12, when the Warriors lost to the nation’s top team in five sets. Corban confidently responded, however, by sweeping RV Benedictine Mesa 25-16, 25-18, and 25-17 in the NAIA Opening Rounds.
Five players from Corban received 2022 All-Cascade Collegiate honors, including sophomore outside hitter, Rylee Troutman, who was named the Rize Laboratory Player of the Year. Troutman led the conference with a mark of 4.32 kills-per-set, a mark that sits fourth in the entire NAIA, while placing in tandem an average of 3.07 digs-per-set.
Fellow outside hitter, Averi Ridgway, also received First-Team All-Cascade Collegiate honors, in recognition of 3.28 kills and 2.64 digs-per-set. Meanwhile, Makayla Roginski, was dubbed the conference’s Freshman of the Year while averaging 2.46 kills-per-set while maintaining a hitting percentage of .291.
