Saints Outlast Vikings for Family Day Victory

Presentation Volleyball celebrated family day today at the Strode and came away with a five set victory over the Valley City State Vikings. The victory pushed the Saints record to 15-13 on the season. The victory also secured the Saints a spot in the NSAA volleyball playoffs.

The Saints fell in the first set by a score of 25-12. Valley City scored nine of the first 10 points and that lead would not fall below six points throughout the set. Presentation had just two occasions of scoring multiple points in a row.

Coming out in the second set, things were tight throughout and neither team led by more than four points at any point. The turning point in the set was at 21-19 Vikings. Presentation would score five consecutive points on Laura Babcock‘s serve including two aces and ultimately won the set 25-22.

The third set was even closer than the second, with each team holding a three point lead, but a majority of the set was within two points. Kerstin Knopik and Saige Jones led the way offensively in the set, each recording several kills. Presentation would also win this set by a score of 25-22 and take a two sets to one lead.

The most competitive set of the match was the fourth set. The teams battled back and forth and each team had multiple set points, but the Vikings came out on top and took the set 29-27.

Throughout the night the home crowd for the Saints played a big role in shifting the momentum when things were in favor of Valley City and propelling Presentation forward when they were on a roll. The crowd reached its fever-pitch in the fifth set which was in the Saints favor for most of and they took it 15-11 to secure a winning record for the season.

Kerstin Knopik was a standout for the Saints this evening leading the team in both kills and blocks. Laura Babcock was strong again with a team leading 42 digs to go along with three service aces. Rebecca Allen also tallied three aces.
