Soaring Eagles Sweep Wilkes Tri Match, Begin 2-0

WILKES, PA – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles opened their season with a sweep of a Wilkes University tri match on Saturday, winning its first match over Eastern 3-2 and took the second against Wilkes in four sets.

JUST THE BASICS (MATCH ONE):

SCORE: Elmira 3, Eastern 1

LOCATION: Wilkes, PA | Marts Center

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (2-0, 0-0 UVC), Eastern University (1-1, 0-0 MAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Jordan Peiser ’24 was on fire in the first match, finishing with 25 kills, good for a .429 hitting percentage.

Gabriel Staron ’27 and Luke Jata ’27 each finished in double digits with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Max Cohen ’25 totaled 50 assists in the first match, far and away the most in the match.

SCORE: Elmira 3, Wilkes 1

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (2-0, 0-0 UVC), Wilkes (0-2, 0-0 CVC)

HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH TWO)

Paten Buckwalter ’28 and Jata each finished with 11 kills in the second match, tying for the team lead.

Cohen finished with another 31 assists, again, leading the match. 

Jata also notched six service aces.

UP NEXT:

After a two-week hiatus, the Soaring Eagles will host a tri-match on Saturday, January 25, hosting both Buffalo State University and Kings College. Match play will begin at 11:00 AM inside Speidel Gymnasium.
