Stanford Advances to MPSF Semifinals


LOS ANGELES – Led by Will Rottman, No. 4 seed Stanford swept No. 5 seed Pepperdine, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19, Wednesday, in the MPSF Quarterfinals at the Galen Center.

Stanford (14-11) hit .314 as a team, while holding Pepperdine (17-11) to a .163 clip – the second lowest by a Cardinal opponent this season.

Rottman recorded his second straight double-double with a team-high 13 kills on 345 hitting and 10 digs. The outside hitter also registered three of Stanford’s five aces, two blocks and an assist.

Setter Nathan Lietzke controlled the offense with 32 assists, and had five digs, a block and an ace. Libero Luke Turner finished with three digs and three assists.

Stanford finished with a sideout rate of 71 percent for the match, while Pepperdine was at 55 percent.

Sophomore opposite Theo Snoey tallied eight kills on a .400 attack percentage and three blocks. Outside hitter Kevin Lamp added eight kills, five digs, a block and an ace.

Middle blocker Ethan Hill hit .714 with six kills on seven swings with just one error, and collected three blocks and two digs. Middle blocker Nathaniel Gates chipped in with five kills, two blocks and a dig.

Pepperdine was led by opposite Akin Akinwumi who posted a match-high 15 kills on .364 hitting.

Stanford will take on No. 2 seed Grand Canyon on Thursday at 7 p.m. on FloVolleyball.
