In the recent Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Poll 3 matches held in Hong Kong, volleyball enthusiasts were treated to two thrilling five-set encounters and one straight-set victory. The day was marked by intense competition as the Dominican Republic and Italy celebrated nail-biting victories, while Poland cruised to a straight-set win.
Kicking off the dayβs games was a tightly contested match between the Dominican Republic and Canada. The Dominican Republic clinched a hard-fought victory with a score of 3-2 (22-25, 25-13, 25-17, 23-25, 15-10). Yonkaira Pena, with a total of 20 points, spearheaded the Dominican Republicβs charge. Despite a commendable effort from Canadaβs captain Alexa Gray, who scored the match-high of 21 points, Canada fell just short.
In the dayβs second match, another five-set thriller, Italy locked horns with the Netherlands, eventually securing a 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 18-25, 19-17) victory. Italyβs Myriam Sylla stood out, contributing a match-high of 26 points, with Sylvia Nwakalor pitching in with an additional 23. Nika Daalderop put up a valiant fight as the Netherlandsβ top scorer with 22 points.
Poland dominated the dayβs final match with an impressive straight-set win over China, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-22). Magdalena Stysiak, scoring 20 points, and Martyna Lukasik, adding 13 more, led the charge for Poland. Meanwhile, Gong Xiangyu and Li Yingying held the fort for China, each tallying 13 points.
