#15 Lewis Men’s Volleyball Falls to #5 Pepperdine in Four Sets Saturday

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 15 Lewis University men’s volleyball team was unable to come away with the victory in the final day of the First Point Collegiate Challenge as the Flyers lost 3-2 to No. 5 Pepperdine, Saturday (Jan. 21).

SET BREAKDOWN

FIRST SET: Pepperdine 25, Lewis 21

  • Pepperdine jumped out to early 6-3 lead in the opening set before Rodriguez-Elias responded with a kill.
  • Every time Lewis would get close, the Waves would make the lead bigger. 
  • The closest Lewis got was when Davis recorded an ace and an attack error by Pepperdine made it 19-18 Waves.
  • Pepperdine would close out the first set outscoring the Flyers 6-3 to win 25-21.

SECOND SET: Lewis 31, Pepperdine 29

  • Lewis jumped out to early 3-0 lead in the second after back-to-back kills by Michael Sack (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence) and Rodriguez-Elias and an ace by Sack. 
  • The Flyers had a sizeable lead throughout the first half of the set before Pepperdine tied it up 15-all. 
  • The Waves went on a rally and led 20-18 late in the second set.
