Alberto Mauricio Earns UVC & Empire 8 Player of the Week Honors

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The United Volleyball Conference (UVC) and the Empire 8 Athletic Conference released its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, with Alberto Mauricio ’25 earning Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week honors in each of the conferences after helping the Purple & Gold to a pair of wins over Hilbert & SUNY Poly.

Mauricio, the reigning Empire 8 Rookie of the Year from a season ago, helped Elmira to a pair of wins after averaging 14 kills, 7.5 digs, and a .447 hitting percentage over the weekend. This is Mauricio’s first weekly award of the 2023 season after earning Rookie of the Week seven times a season ago.

Against Hilbert, Maurcio recorded a .778 hitting percentage which is the best since teammate Oscar Munoz Trinidad ’23 hit .905% against the Hawks last season for a program record. Additionally, Mauricio’s nine digs on the defensive end helped the Soaring Eagles hold the Hawks to just seven kills, the least in a contest for an EC opponent since the teams’ inaugural season (2013).

Mauricio is off to a quick start to begin the 2023 campaign, notching double-digit kills in each of his four matches played, tallying 73.5 points in the early-going.
