Beach Dawgs Back at Alki, Senior Day on Saturday

SEATTLE–  No. 11 Huskies return to Alki Beach on Friday, looking to extend their winning streak at home on April 12th and13th. The Huskies enter this weekend with the highest ranking in program history after they jumped two spots to No. 11 on the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, thanks to taking down multiple ranked opponents last weekend. That undefeated performance also earned Zoey Henson and Lauren Wilcock National and Pac-12 Pair of the week.

In the Alki Beach Invitational beginning on Friday, the Huskies will play Oregon at 10:00 a.m., Boise State at 12:30 p.m., and No. 15 Georgia State at 4:15 p.m.

The invitational is a Round Robin-style tournament where every team plays each other once. The teams will then be seeded for the semifinals and finals, based on the results from the previous day.

Also, the Beach Dawgs will host a ceremony after the 1:45 p.m. dual on Saturday to honor the excellent careers of Piper Monk-Herich, Maia Nichols, Shannon Gormally and Scarlett Dahl who all contributed to the best season last year and the records broken on this year’s run.

Last Weekend at the Pac-12 North Tournament

The Huskies posted a 3-1 record last weekend at the Pac-12 North Tournament here at home. They opened with a major win against No. 12 Arizona, 3-2. The Dawgs followed that up with a 4-1 loss to Stanford to close out day one. On Saturday, the Beach Dawgs bounced back, took down Cal, and then swept Oregon 5-0 to end the weekend. The wins helped move multiple Huskies up the all-time record book.

Kendall Mather is now tied with Crissy Jones and Tia Scambray for tenth all-time in career dual wins at the University of Washington with 28 and Piper Monk-heidrich passed Jones and Scambray moving into ninth all-time with 30 duals wins at UW after their wins last weekend.

Scouting The Competition:

The Boise State Broncos are 24-8 this season while receiving votes in this week’s AVCA poll. Before heading to Seattle, they are hosting St. Mary’s and Arizona. Oregon is back in Seattle for the second weekend in a row. The Ducks are coming off a 5-0 sweep of Bushnell University on Tuesday. No. 15 Georgia State pulled off an upset of No. 8 Louisiana State University last weekend.

In the rankings

The Huskies moved up to No. 11 in the AVCA weekly rankings, the highest ranking in program history. The previous highest ranking was No. 12 during week three of last year.
