Henson and Wilcock Named Pac-12 Pair of the Week

SEATTLE On Tuesday, Zoey Henson and Lauren Wilcock were named Pac-12 Pair of the Week. This is the third time in program history that a Beach Dawgs pair has won conference pair of the week. Chloe Loreen and Natalie Robison won the award last year to open the season.

Henson and Wilcock helped give the Beach Dawgs their highest-ranked victory in program history after taking down No. 7 California on Saturday.

Henson and Lauren posted a perfect weekend from the No. 2 spot, helping the team notch three major wins against Oregon and two ranked wins against No. 12 Arizona State, No. 7 California. The duo also took down No. 2 Stanford in a 4-1 loss.

The pair opened the first home tournament, taking down the higher-ranked Sun Devils. The dynamic duo won two straight sets after dropping the first one 17-21. The duo jumped out to a lead in the second set and never lost it, winning 21-15. Henson and Wilcock landed consecutive aces during a 5-1 run in the second set. The duo followed up the tremendous second-set win with an even better 15-5 win in the third set.

Wilcock picked up her 50th career win, and the team won two straight sets for the second match in a row. Henson and Wilcock responded to every one of Stanford’s attacks. They were tied 7-7 before they pulled ahead to win 21-16 in the second set. The duo went back and forth before the Dawgs pulled ahead 15-13 in the third set.

The pair followed up the two wins on Friday with the record-setting victory against the Bears. They jumped out to a lead in the first set and held on to it. At the 19-16 mark in the first set, the duo started hot, holding their three-point lead until 19-16. Then, they scored two consecutive points to close out the first match for the Dawgs 21-16.

Later that afternoon, while battling the elements, the Dawgs extended their winning streak against the Oregon Ducks to five with a 5-0 victory. Rain had been pounding Alki Beach throughout the day, making conditions challenging for the athletes.

Henson and Wilcock dispatched their Pacific Northwest rival to stay perfect for the weekend. The pair jumped ahead after a 7-7 tie and won 21-12. In the second set, the Ducks kept the score close until the Huskies went on a 7-0 run, pushing the lead to eight and holding that margin till the end.
