Home Opener Against Cats On Wednesday


TEMPE – Sun Devil Beach Volleyball is finally playing a dual in Tempe as the team hosts No. 19 Arizona this Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. MST at the Sun Devil Beach Volleyball Facility.

Fan Information and How to Follow

The dual between the Sun Devils and Wildcats will be free to the public. Fans are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to sit on in the grass. For those not in attendance, the dual will be on the ASU Live Stream, with live scoring available as well. 

This matchup is worth a half point in the Territorial Cup Series. The second matchup in Tucson on April 21 is also worth a half point. 

Sun Devil Outlook

Arizona State (6-7, 2-2 Pac-12)

  • The Sand Devils are coming off of a rainy weekend at the Gamecock Grand Slam at South Carolina. The team went 1-2, picking up a win against Houston Christian.
  • Junior Kate Fitzgerald and sophomore Rylie Kael were the lone duo to get a win over a ranked-team pair. They beat No. 16 South Carolina’s No. 5 pair in straight sets.
  • Two Sun Devil duos lead the team in wins with an 8-5 record. Taryn Ames and Sarah Waters have that mark between courts two and three. The freshman pair of Adriana Nieves Papaleo and Carys Thomas have primarily played on court four.
  • In the record book, Waters, a senior, is ranked No. 10 for individual career wins with 37. Right behind her are Ames and senior Lexi Sweeney with 35. Fitzgerald moved up to a tie for No. 14 with 28 wins.
  • Last season, the Sun Devils and Wildcats split the regular season series, with each team winning at home. ASU also upset Arizona at the 2022 Pac-12 Championships.

Opponent Outlook

No. 19 Arizona (12-3, 2-2 Pac-12)

  • The Wildcats have just three losses so far this season, two of which were to ranked opponents.They have one ranked win: beating No. 17 Pepperdine on the road, 3-2.
  • Arizona has won its last four duals, sweeping its opponents at the SFA Invitational last Friday.
